Thomas L. Jenkins, M.D. is a board-certified, fellowship-trained ophthalmologist at Retina Institute of Virginia, serving patients in the Richmond area. Dr. Jenkins’ areas of expertise include surgical diseases of the macula and retina, scleral fixation of intraocular lenses, retinal vascular diseases, diabetic retinopathy, and macular degeneration.
Dr. Jenkins attended the College of Charleston in South Carolina where he received a Bachelor of Science in Molecular Biology with honors. He earned his medical degree with honors from the University of Virginia School of Medicine, where he received multiple awards for clinical performance. He then completed an internship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City. He completed his residency in Ophthalmology at Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia, considered to be one of the top training programs in the country. After residency, he remained at Wills Eye Hospital to complete a two-year fellowship in Vitreoretinal Surgery.
Dr. Jenkins is board-certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. His areas of expertise include surgical diseases of the macula and retina, scleral fixation of intraocular lenses, retinal vascular diseases, diabetic retinopathy, and macular degeneration.
Dr. Jenkins is a Richmond native, where he currently lives with his wife and child.
