Juan A. Astruc Jr., M.D. is a board-certified, fellowship-trained ophthalmologist at Retina Institute of Virginia, treating patients in the Richmond area. Dr. Astruc’s areas of expertise include retinal detachments, penetrating ocular trauma, macular surgery, retinal vascular diseases, diabetic retinopathy, and macular degeneration.
Dr. Astruc received his Bachelor of Science in Business from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. He earned his medical degree from the Medical College of Virginia. He then completed an internship in Internal Medicine from the Medical College of Virginia, where he continued his residency training in Ophthalmology. He completed a fellowship in Vitreo-Retinal Surgery and Macular Diseases with J. Donald M. Gass, M.D. at Vanderbilt University.
Dr. Astruc is board-certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology, is a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, a member of the American Society of Retina Specialists and an active member of the Virginia Society of Ophthalmology. Dr. Astruc also served as a member of the Medical Advisory Board for the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles from 2006 to 2016.
Dr. Astruc is a native of Richmond, Virginia, where he lives with his wife and four children.
